Proctor needles are utilized for quick measurement of maximum soil density in the field. Standard Compaction curves demonstrating moisture contents versus densities are generally drawn in laboratory using standard compaction method and penetration of the proctor needles are correlated. Proctor needles are also known as Proctor Penetrometers.Hydraulic type is same as spring except that the penetration pressure on the needle is provided through a hydraulic system to a hydraulic pressure gauge. A greater control over rate of penetration is permitted in this system because of better visibility of load indication on the gauge.
