Description
Liquid Limit Testing determines the water content at which soil
changes from a liquid to a plastic state. The liquid limit data of soils is
useful to compare mechanical properties of soil, such as lower shear strength and compressibility. Liquid limit is the water
content at which soil passes from zero strength to an infinite strength.
Liquid limit is that water content limit at which a part of soil, cut by a
groove of standard dimensions flows together for a distance of 1.25cm under
an impact of 25 blows in a standard liquid limit apparatus. It consists of a brass cup held on an
adjustable bracket. The cup can be adjusted for a fall of 1 cm and can be
raised an dropped on a rubber base of standard hardness by cam action. It is
provided with one Casagrande grooving tool, one grooving tool and a
height gauge block. Now a days this
motorized(120 rpm) device facilitated with counter is available.
SPECIFICATIONS:
• It consists of brass cup, carriage
,cam mechanism and crank mounted on a hard rubber base. Includes grooving tool and gauge block. Crank can be
shifted to right- or left-hand operation.
