The device is known as the tilting bucket type Rain Gauge. Nomeasurement is necessary as the rain is collected in thereceiver and is dropped into a bucket divided into two parts.After the rain has filled one side. it falls over and emptiesitself, the other half of the bucket coming into position toreceive the water, and so on. The number of variations arerecorded by a counting machine indicating rain falls upto 100cms and can be observed through a glass covered inspectionwindow.
